fue un pionero y popular astrónomo, exobiólogo y divulgador científico en todo el mundo.

Biografía
Carl Sagan se crio en Brooklyn, Ciudad de Nueva York, en el seno de una familia de tradición judía y origen ruso.[3] Su padre, Sam Sagan, fue un trabajador de la industria del vestido. Su madre, Rachel Molly Gruber, fue un ama de casa.

Carl recibió su nombre en honor a su abuela, Chaiya Clara, "la madre que nunca conoció", en palabras del propio Sagan. Sagan se graduó en la Rahway High School en New Jersey en 1951. Estudió en la Universidad de Chicago, en la que se graduó como Licenciado en Artes con honores generales y especiales (1954) y como Licenciado en Ciencias (1955), y donde obtuvo una Maestría en Física (1956), antes de acceder al Doctorado en astronomía y astrofísica (1960). Sagan se consideraba agnóstico.

También era un conocido escéptico con un fuerte posicionamiento en contra de las pseudociencias y las religiones en general...

Fue pionero en campos como la exobiología y promotor del proyecto SETI ("Search for ExtraTerrestrial Inteligence" literalmente: Búsqueda de inteligencia extraterrestre), casi desde sus años de postgrado. Conocido por el gran público por la serie para la televisión de Cosmos: Un viaje personal, presentada por él mismo entre 1977 a 1980 escrita y producida para la KCTE de California junto con su tercera y última esposa, la Dra. en biología Ann Druyan, reeditada en los años 1990-1991;[5] (también estuvo casado con la prestigiosa bióloga Lynn Margulis). Fue titular de la cátedra David Duncan de Astronomía y Ciencias del Espacio de la Universidad de Cornell.[6] Y director del Laboratorio de Estudios Planetarios de dicha universidad.

Kiosko.net, es una página que nos ofrece una buena colección de periódicos tanto nacionales como extranjeros para que podamos ver los sucesos del día desde distintas perspectivas. Una estupenda utilidad para aquellos, por ejemplo, que reciben diariamente en su oficina varios diarios y de esta forma poder acceder a ellos en un solo sitio web.

Si es cierto que las alternativas de siempre se siguen utilizando ya que si no desaparecerían los diarios impresos, pero también es cierto que no podemos evitar ser conscientes de que el futuro apunta a que todos los medios impresos irán perdiendo fuerza en el mercado en esta era digital.

Si bien no es una alternativa que soluciona al 100% personalizar la fuente de información deseada por cada lector, desde luego supone un adelanto en la red de redes, que cada día nos ofrece las primicias antes que otro medio nos la muestren.

It has to be TED and their amazing stories, among them I have selected the story of, 14 year old William Kamkwamba, who decided to build a windmill to get electricity to his familys home in rural Malawi.

He simply went to the library, read up on the rudimentary workings on a electric generator, decided to improve on the design and then built the windmill with salvaged scrap parts, providing electricity for his family’s home. The power of human curiosity, willingness to learn, triumph of reason and dispersion of information.

This story resonates with everything that is good about humanity and our inherent power to overcome obstacles. Watch and learn !!!

William est un jeune du Malawi (c’est en Afrique pour ceux qui ne savent pas !) qui a été obligé d’arrêter l’école à 14 ans parce ça famille n’arrivait pas à payer les 54€ de frais d’inscription nécessaire à la poursuite de ces études. Mais en rentrant dans son village natal, dans l’intérieur du pays où il n’y avait pas d’eau courante ni d’électricité, William Kamkwamba ne s’est pas laissé décourager par sa situation. Lorsqu’il n’était pas en train d’aidé ses parents à la ferme, il passait son temps à la bibliothèque municipale à lire. Un jour à la bibliothèque, William a vu la photographie d’une éolienne et un commentaire qui affirmait qu’avec l’énergie du vent l’éolienne arrivait à produire de l’électricité et à alimenter des pompes à eaux.
Déterminé à aider sa famille, et a s’en sortir malgré la pauvreté et la sècheresse qui frappait sévèrement son village cette même année, William construit à 14 ans sa propre éolienne de 5 mètre de haut, à partir de matériaux usagers. Cette invention permit à William d’alimenter la maison de ses parents en électricité.

WASHINGTON, D.C.- El diferenciador entre los sistemas operativos en otras computadoras portátiles y las Chromebooks es que el sistema está diseñado para funcionar completamente en la nube, de manera que todos los datos generados por ésta, suben de manera automática a la red y pueden ser utilizados de manera remota.

It’s quite natural and very easy to make mistakes when building a website, whether it is your first venture online or if you have taken up web hosting for a few websites already.

Mistakes do cost you though and in terms of S.E.O., because your are counting on the way the search engines see your website, a simple mistake can multiply and result in greatly reduced visitors.

Below are 5 areas that each contain 5 common pitfalls
you must avoid at all costs if you wish your website to be successful. Following this simple guide will improve the experience of your visitors, improve the way the Googlebot and friends index the site and will improve the overall S.E.O. of your website.

Let’s get started …
Here are 25 deadly sins of website building; 5 things never, ever, to do when…

1) … GIVING YOUR WEB-PAGES TITLES
The titles of your website are integral to the promotion of your website. They are the first part of your website that will be seen in the search results pages of Google and Yahoo! and therefore the one element that the viewer will use to decide whether to visit your web page or not.

NEVER: Choose too complicated or too vague a title that isn’t relevant and/or has no relation to the content on the page. Your website is not a newspaper that a reader has already committed themselves to so make your titles simple rather than really clever.
NEVER: Use default or vague titles like “Untitled” or “New Page 1” … This gives the Googlebot and your visitors nothing to work with… They should be finding what they are searching for … not have to guess what your content is about.
NEVER: Use a single title tag across all of your site’s pages or a large group of pages. Each page MUST have a unique title that is relevant to the content.
NEVER: Using extremely lengthy titles that are unhelpful to users. Keep it short and sweet.
NEVER: Stuff unneeded keywords in your title tags; this will be seen as content spamming by Google and the Search Engines and your website will be penalized for it.
If you are using BlueVoda, you should use: View > Page Properties to edit the title of your web pages. You should choose something, short, concise and relevant. Make sure it contains a couple, at least one, of your keywords but don’t go overboard!

2) … CREATING YOUR WEBSITE’S NAVIGATION
Your website exists to be useful to your visitors and it is not being very useful if a visitor get’s lost while navigating it. In my opinion your visitors should never have to use the Back Button on their browser. You should provide them basic navigation from within the website so that they can get, easily, to wherever they want to be. As well as creating both an XML Sitemap (for the Googlebot) and a HTML sitemap for your visitors there should always be some text navigation for the user to use.

NEVER: Create a complex webs of navigation links, e.g. linking every page on your site to every other page. This is overkill and will confuse not only you but your visitors as well!
NEVER: Go overboard with slicing and dicing your content (so that it takes twenty clicks)
NEVER: Have a navigation based entirely on drop-down menus, images, or animations
- many, but not all, search engines can discover such links on a site, but if a user can reach all pages on a site via normal text links, this will improve the accessibility of your site manyfold.
NEVER: Let your HTML site map page become out of date with broken links
NEVER: Create an HTML site map that simply lists pages without organizing them, for example by subject matter. The links alone are useful out of context.
You should always make the navigation of your web pages easy. Your visitors must be able to easily navigate around your site and it must be easy for them to return to a contents page if they quickly wish to return to a piece of content. How are your visitors to link to a piece of your content if they cannot find it?

3) … CREATING CONTENT FOR YOUR WEBSITE
Your content is the reason that visitors visit your web-pages. Without content, your website has nothing to offer; without good content you have a collection of designs. When you are creating your content, never do the below things…

NEVER: Dump large amounts of text on varying topics onto a page without paragraph, subheading, or layout separation.
NEVER: Rehash (or even copy) existing content that will bring little extra value to users. You should also avoid having duplicate or near-duplicate versions of your content across your site
NEVER: Insert numerous unnecessary keywords aimed at search engines and are annoying or nonsensical to users. Creating your content around your keywords is the wrong thing to do … You must optimize your content with your keywords.
NEVER: Have blocks of text like “frequent misspellings used to reach this page” that add little value for users.
NEVER: Deceptively hide text from users, but display it to search engines. The search engines know when you are doing this.
Your websites content, like it’s navigation, should be hierarchical, with clear and original subject matter, set-up like the best organized library in the world. If it is of no value to your visitors then it has no place on your web page. Make it all really, really useful!

4) … CREATING LINKS WITHIN YOUR WEBSITE
Links are the life-blood of the Internet and are essential to the promotion of your website. Getting links to your content from relevant anchor text (the text that contains the link) should be your ultimate goal when creating content. You can do some great S.E.O. on your internal links by following the notes below.

NEVER: Write generic anchor text like “page“, “article“, or “click here” and never write long anchor text, such as a lengthy sentence or short paragraph of text.
NEVER: Use anchor text that is off-topic or has no relation to the content of the page that is being linked to.
NEVER: Use the page’s URL as the anchor text in most cases (although there are certainly legitimate uses of this, such as promoting or referencing a new website’s address)
NEVER: Use CSS or text styling that make links look just like regular text. Googlebot knows when you are doing this and doesn’t like it one bit.
NEVER: Use excessively keyword-filled or lengthy anchor text just for search engines
Links are very powerful and should be used properly. They are a massive part of where your website appears on the Search Engine Results Pages and are responsible for how your website appears for certain searches. Always treat your links with a great amount of respect.

5) … PROMOTING YOUR WEBSITE

NEVER: Attempt to promote each new, small piece of content you create; go for the big, interesting items.
NEVER: Keep promoting the same piece of content repeatedly. You will alienate your viewers! Keep creating!
NEVER: Spam. Don’t even consider it! It is completely unacceptable. Use a mailer that uses a Double Opt-In like AWeber to ensure that your mailing list understands that they have been added to your mailing list and what their choices are as far as unsubscribing from your mailing list
NEVER: Promote your website based on mis-truths. Always tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
NEVER: Stop promoting your website the right way. In fact, never stop learning and promoting your website… This would be the worst mistake to make; it is tantamount to failure.

Follow the tips above and you are guaranteed greater success for your website because you will not be making any basic, simple mistakes. The list above is by no means exhaustive; there are plenty more mistakes to make. The Manila-Acapulco galleons (Galeones de Manila-Acapulco) were Spanish trading ships that sailed once or twice per year across the Pacific Ocean – between Manila, Philippines and Acapulco, New Spain (now Mexico) between 1565 to 1815.

The Galeon Andalucia, a replica of the 17th Century Galeon sailed and docked at Pier 13 in Manila Harbor last Oct. 6, 2010. This was in connection with the Dia del Galeon (Day of the Galleon) Festival. I had a chance to board Galeon Andalucia and toured around it and saw what it looked like aboard a galleon.

La longevidad de las hormigas has sido objeto de numerosos estudios de la ciencia y enOjocientífico hemos dedicado algunos artículos muy interesantes que ayudan a comprendercuánto tiempo vive una hormiga y por qué.

Las investigaciones científicas realizadas a la actualidad han arrojado como resultado que según sea la especie de la hormiga será su longevidad promedio. Es decir, si la hormiga pertenece a la especieFaraón (Monomorium Pharaonis) o a la Fantasma (Tapinoma Melanocephalum) su vida solo será de unas pocas semanas. En cambio, si la hormiga es Rufa (roja) o de alguna familia de esta especie, su longevidad varía de uno a tres años.

En el caso de las hormigas Reinas de la especie Rufa, el promedio se eleva a 15 años mientras que la de especie Faraón no llega a un año.

El máximo de longevidad de una hormiga reina del que se tiene registro fue de 29 años y tuvo lugar en una colonia de laboratorio.

Según un estudio del cual publicamos aquí en Ojocientífico los resultados hace algún tiempo, cuando se completó primer mapa genético de las hormigas se reveló que la hormiga reina contiene el mismo material genético que las hormigas comunes y que al fecundarse ésta se convierte en reina, su ADN se modifica y su longevidad se multiplica. En otras especies, con la muerte de la reina la colonia desaparece.

La presencia de la Telomerasa en este proceso sería determinante según las investigaciones para que sea factible dicha modificación.

If you want to grow in life, increasing your mental capacity is a must. By increasing your mental capacity, you will be able to handle more things and assume larger responsibilities.

It’s just like your physical capability to lift heavier and heavier weight in weight training. People with greater physical capability will be able to lift heavier weight effortlessly while those with less capability will tire themselves out or even not be able to lift it at all. So just like you should train your muscles to increase your physical capability, you should also train your “mental muscles” to increase your mental capacity.

But how should you do that? How should you train your mental muscles to increase your mental capacity? I believe the answer is similar to the way you increase your physical capability in weight training.

To increase your physical capability in weight training, you should train yourself by lifting weight which is just outside your current capability. If your current capability is 100 pounds for example, you can increase your capability by training yourself with 110 pounds. Though it may feel a bit hard in the beginning, you will find it effortless after some days or weeks of training. You can then add a little more weight, and by doing so again and again, after 1 or 2 years you will see your physical capability increase significantly.

The way to increase your mental capacity is similar:

Do things which are just outside your comfort zone.

This – I believe – is the best thing you can do. It introduces some inconvenience in your life, but only in a bearable way. As a result, your mental muscles will grow stronger and your mental capacity will increase.

To help you put it into practice, here are 30 ways to do things which are just outside your comfort zone to increase your mental capacity:

When someone asks you to do something, make your default answer “yes” (but don’t forget to say “no” when appropriate).
In a gathering (class, conference, etc.), sit next to someone you do not know.

APUNTES SOBRE EL CORREO EN MÉXICO

La necesidad de comunicarse ha sido una de las importantes tareas en la historia de la humanidad. Sin embargo desde sus inicios tuvo diferentes características como hasta la fecha, pues se diferenciaba comunicación política, de la militar, comercial, etcétera. En esas condiciones surge en el mundo el Correo.

La expresión Correo, procede de la palabra correr y "se remonta a épocas en que los portadores de noticias cumplían esa función de llevar y traer noticias y documentos para la nobleza, casta sacerdotal y preferentemente, para los militares, donde la información que trasmitían era de vital importancia logística para el movimiento de sus tropas".

El sistema de correos como institución aparece en Europa, de manera incipiente a fines del siglo XIV y principios del XV.
.
La locución de "Postal", utilizado por todos los servicios de correos del mundo, "tiene su origen en el uso generalizado del caballo, como medio de transporte indispensable para el traslado de la correspondencia de una ciudad a otra y, en el recorrido de esas distancias se encontraban las postas, lugares donde estaban a disposición de los jinetes y/o carruajes, cabalgaduras frescas para continuar la jornada".

Al principio se tenía una "especie de corrales o caballerizas que concentraban a un buen número de caballos para el relevo oportuno y en donde se les proveía de agua, forrajes y granos para su alimentación y descanso, se les conoció como ‘postas’ nombre de origen latino que significa: ''lugar o puesto donde están los caballos".

Con el tiempo, con el desarrollo del servicio de correos, "de manera paralela a las postas, fueron haciendo su aparición pequeños mesones u hosterías donde se podía entregar y recibir correspondencia; de ahí los títulos de ‘Correo Mayor de Hostes y Postas’ que posteriormente fueron dados a las personas que ejercían la función del correo".

El correo, en principio estuvo al servicio de las clases privilegiadas y con su desarrollo se popularizó "como un servicio confiable que va de la mano con el desarrollo de la imprenta y el uso de la palabra escrita como medio de comunicación".

En el México precortesiano, especialmente en Tenochtitlán, "tenían tres tipos de mensajeros: los painanis, los yciucatitlantis y los tequihuatitlantlis.

Los painanis, o mensajeros del dios Painal, cuya definición etimológica es la de "el corredor veloz" o "el de los pies ligeros" que aunque sólo trasmitían información, más bien de tipo religioso y ceremonial.

Los yciucatitlantis, mensajeros que llevaban datos urgentes, como fue el avisar la llegada de los españoles.
.
Y los Tequihuatitlantlis, mensajeros que cumplían una función militar y que informaban sobre el desarrollo de la guerra o la suerte de alguna batalla".

Iniciada la conquista, y durante un periodo de 59 años, en el recién establecido Virreinato de la Nueva España, no existió la institución del correo como tal y todo se manejaba a partir de mensajeros particulares.

Será el 31 de mayo de 1579 cuando por Decreto de Felipe II, se instituye pero inicia su función en 1580.

Este correo en sus inicios, fue concebido como una empresa privada, pero con la instauración de las Reformas Borbónicas en todo el imperio español, el servicio de correos, pasa a ser una función prioritaria de la Corona Española de 1766.

Las Ordenanzas de Correos de 1762, "establecieron el uso de los ‘buzones’, en las diferentes rutas postales consignan, por primera vez en la historia del correo, la figura del cartero, personaje imprescindible en el medio urbano, como parte del surgimiento de las grandes ciudades".

Some of the greatest people in history have educated themselves to a large degree using a process known as autodidacticism.
This is something that's more easily undertaken these days with the great wealth of online tools available to anyone.

Whether you've gone to college or not, you can learn just about anything these days on your own. Want to learn about the classics? Carpentry and home maintenance? Philosophy or cooking? Chess or computer programming? It's all online, and with a little bit of excitement, you can motivate yourself to learn a subject in a growing number of ways.

Why self-education?
Well, besides the obvious reasons of wanting to improve yourself, prepare yourself for success, and just learn as much as you can, self-education offers a few extra benefits: you can learn at your own pace, and in your own way. You can follow your passions, and learn about things that excite you. There's no price for failure, but there's every reward for success.

How do you go about becoming an autodidact?
The answer is simple: any way you want. I would suggest you set aside just a little time each day to learn a specific subject, but that really depends on your learning style. Some people learn all in one great rush: they'll stay up late hours for a few days in a row, consuming everything they possibly can about a subject. A vast repository of great and useful articles, Wikipedia is the autodidact's dream. You could surf it for hours, days on end, or you could use one of many tools to make daily learning a breeze. One of the best is the Articles of the Day feature --sign up to get it in your email box. Another great option that I've tried is making Wikipedia's random page your home page.

Online Courses
Today you can learn from the best colleges and universities, from the comfort of your own home. Just a few of the online offerings: Berkeley, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame.

Chapter a day
Don't have time for books? Read them the easy way: a chapter a day is emailed to you or added to your RSS reader by DailyLit.com, which has a growing selection of free books.

Word a day
Improve your vocabulary by leaps and bounds through the FreeDictionary, which has some great features you can subscribe to,including these RSS feeds: Article of the Day, In the News, and This Day in History.

¿Somos autodidactas aunque estemos asistiendo a una clase donde se imparte lo que aprendemos?

Posiblemente sí y la prueba está que con los mismos métodos y con los mismos tutores, algunos alumnos aprenden y otros no.

El interés que se pone, la capacidad de abstraer lo enseñado a casos prácticos y útiles en nuestra propia vida… quizá todo eso es autodidactismo, quizá en esos momentos nos estamos enseñando, aunque un profesor o una profesora nos acabe de decir la frase que estamos aprendiendo.

Es probable que lo mejor que te puedan enseñar en una Universidad es a aprender por ti mismo/a.

Sí, uno de los fundamentos de la pedagogía es que el aprendizaje no puede ser totalmente pasivo, es decir, que siempre hay un porcentaje de autodidactismo en todo proceso de aprendizaje. Cuando se reformó el sistema educativo (la famosa LOGSE)se potenció mucho la idea de que se debía enseñar al alumno a aprender, más que enseñarle cosas concretas. Es decir, es mucho más importante saber donde buscar información que almacenar conocimientos, aunque también hay que almacenar algunos. Con eso también se fomentó mucho el aprendizaje de aspectos instrumentales: lo que dices tú, cosas que consisten en una mecánica que se aprende a base de repetir (practicar) y que no se puede aprender en los libros, como el empleo del sistema operativo Windows, por ejemplo; se aprende usándolo. O aprender a conducir, etc. Es otro tipo de clases en las que el profesor no es un conferenciante que escribe de vez en cuando en la pizarra sino algo más parecido a un monitor deportivo que controla el autoaprendizaje de los alumnos.

Conozco gente que no ha hecho carrera y que leyendo, en su casa con la predisposición adecuada, podría ser catedrático de más de una universidad.

Probablemente es que el autodidactismo sea la mejor manera de aprender, por el entusiasmo desbordado por un area de conocimiento, que hace que quieras abarcar mucho más de lo que normalmente se te exigiría y que al mismo tiempo estes todo el día intentando rellenar todas tus inmensas lagunas. Te crea una tensión cognitivo-creativa que nunca cesa!

Donde creo que sí vienen bien los profesores o conferenciantes es en esas materias en las que a lo mejor no te van a enseñar nada en cuanto a conocimientos concretos o manejo de algo, pero sí que te van a cambiar la vida, la forma de ver las cosas, te van a expandir los horizontes, te van a abrir los ojos con respecto a cosas...

Becoming Self-Taught

Most of the skills I use to make a living are skills I’ve learned on my own: Web design, desktop publishing, marketing, personal productivity skills, even teaching! And most of what I know about science, politics, computers, art, guitar-playing, world history, writing, and a dozen other topics I’ve picked up outside of any formal education.

This is not to toot my own horn at all; if you stop to think about it, much of what you know how to do you’ve picked up on your own. But we rarely think about the process of becoming self-taught. This is too bad, because often we shy away from things we don’t know how to do without stopping to think about how we might learn it — in many cases, fairly easily.
The way you approach the world around you dictates to a great degree whether you will find learning something new easy or hard. Learning comes easily to people who have developed:
Curiosity: Being curious means you look forward to learning new things and are troubled by gaps in your understanding of the world. New words and ideas are received as challenges and the work of understanding them is embraced. People who lack curiosity see learning new things as a chore — or worse, as beyond their capacities. Patience: Depending on the complexity of a topic, learning something new can take a long time. And it’s bound to be frustrating as you grapple with new terminologies, new models, and apparently irrelevant information. When you are learning something by yourself, there is nobody to control the flow of information, to make sure you move from basic knowledge to intermediate and finally advanced concepts. Patience with your topic, and more importantly with yourself is crucial — there’s no field of knowledge that someone in the world hasn’t managed to learn, starting from exactly where you are. A feeling for connectedness: This is the hardest talent to cultivate, and is where most people flounder when approaching a new topic. A new body of knowledge is always easiest to learn if you can figure out the way it connects to what you already know. For years I struggled with calculus in college until one day, my chemistry prof. demonstrated how to do half-life calculations using integrals. From then on, calculus came much easier, because I had made a connection between a concept I understood well (the chemistry of half-lifes) and a field I had always struggled in (higher maths). The more you look for and pay attention to the connections between different fields, the more readily your mind will be able to latch onto new concepts. With a learning attitude in place, working your way into a new topic is simply a matter of research, practice, networking, and scheduling.
Research: Of course, the most important step in learning something new is actually finding out stuff about it. I tend to go through three distinct phases when I’m teaching myself a new topic: Learning the basics: Start as all things start today: Google it! Somehow people managed to learn before Google ( I learned HTML when Altavista was the best we got!) but nowadays a well-formed search on Google will get you a wealth of information on any topic in seconds. Surfing Wikipedia articles is a great way to get a basic grounding in a new field, too — and usually the Wikipedia entry for your search term will be on the first page of your Google search.What I look for is basic information and then the work of experts — blogs by researchers in a field, forums about a topic, organizational websites, magazines. I subscribe to a bunch of RSS feeds to keep up with new material as it’s posted, I print out articles to read in-depth later, and I look for the names of top authors or top books in the field. Hitting the books:Once I have a good outline of a field of knowledge, I hit the library. I look up the key names and titles I came across online, and then scan the shelves around those titles for other books that look interesting. Then I go to the children’s section of the library and look up the same call numbers — a good overview for teens is probably going to be clearer, more concise, and more geared towards learning than many adult books. Long-term reference:While I’m reading my stack of books from the library, I start keeping my eyes out for books I will want to give a permanent place on my shelves. I check online and brick-and-mortar bookstores, but also search thrift stores, used bookstores, library book sales, garage sales, wherever I happen to find myself in the presence of books. My goal is a collection of reference manuals and top books that I will come back to either to answer thorny questions or to refresh my knowledge as I put new skills into practice. And to do this cheaply and quickly. Practice: Putting new knowledges into practice helps us develop better understandings now and remember more later. Although a lot of books offer exercises and self-tests, I prefer to jump right in and build something: a website, an essay, a desk, whatever. A great way to put any new body of knowledge into action is to start a blog on it — put it out there for the world to see and comment on. Just don’t lock your learning up in your head where a) nobody ever sees how much you know about something, and b) you never see how much you still don’t know. Network: One of the most powerful sources of knowledge and understanding in my life have been the social networks I have become embedded in over the years — the websites I write on, the listservs I belong to, the people I talk with and present alongside at conferences, my colleagues in the department where I studied and the department where I now teach, and so on. These networks are crucial to extending my knowledge in areas I am already involved, and for referring me to contacts in areas where I have no prior experience. Joining an email list, emailing someone working in the field, asking colleagues for recommendations, all are useful ways of getting a foothold in a new field. Networking also allows you to test your newly-acquired knowledge against others’ understandings, giving you a chance to grow and further develop. Schedule: For anything more complex than a simple overview, it pays to schedule time to commit to learning. Having the books on the shelf, the top websites bookmarked, and a string of contacts does no good if you don’t give yourself time to focus on reading, digesting, and implementing your knowledge. Give yourself a deadline, even if there is no externally imposed time limit, and work out a schedule to reach that deadline. In a sense, even formal education is a form of self-guided learning — in the end, a teacher can only suggest and encourage a path to learning, at best cutting out some of the work of finding reliable sources to learn from. If you’re already working, or have a range of interests beside the purely academic, formal instruction may be too inconvenient or too expensive to undertake. That doesn’t men you have to set aside the possibility of learning, though; history is full of self-taught successes. At its best, even a formal education is meant to prepare you for a life of self-guided learning; with the power of the Internet and the mass media at our disposal, there’s really no reason not to follow your muse wherever it may lead.

Muchos ejecutivos del ámbito empresarial se preguntan para qué sirven con exactitud, las relaciones públicas y, en definitiva, cuáles son las funciones básicas que debe desempeñar un profesional a su cargo.

Lo cierto es que existen muchas confusiones en este asunto. Sin pretender ser exhaustivos, podemos clasificar las acciones procedimentales específicas de las Relaciones Públicas en tres grandes categorías: operativas, tácticas y estratégicas.

Acciones operativas

Las primeras acciones especializadas del área de Relaciones Públicas en empresas e instituciones públicas han estado vinculadas con la elaboración de informes de prensa internos orientados a directivos, con el resumen clasificado de la información más relevante.

Otras de las actividades clásicas de los comienzos de la profesión, allá por mediados del siglo pasado, han sido las de Ceremonial y Protocolo.

Los primeros esfuerzos en esta área estuvieron orientados a la unificación de criterios para la redacción de los diferentes textos corporativos e institucionales, la correcta ubicación de la Bandera Nacional y tratamiento de los símbolos patrios y la disposición necesaria, en actos internos y externos, de autoridades e invitados de acuerdo al Orden de Precedencia.

Acciones tácticas

Con el correr del tiempo, la creciente importancia del concepto de "imagen institucional" reconvirtió la función del relacionista público. El interés de las organizaciones por transmitir solvencia y confiabilidad se ubicó en el centro de los programas de relaciones públicas.

En la década del '90, las principales agencias de RR.PP. comenzaron a consolidar dos acciones fundamentales: "Publicity" (o Prensa) y la organización de eventos corporativos.

1) Publicity

"Publicity" (hacer público, dar a conocer) es la acción que consiste en divulgar información relevante de una empresa, entidad u organismo público o privado, con el fin de que sea difundida total o parcialmente por diferentes medios de comunicación, en el contexto de su propia oferta informativa y editorial. Al tratarse de información, la pugna por formar parte del contenido de un medio debería sustentarse en la calidad y relevancia de la noticia.

2) Eventos corporativos

Los eventos y su organización profesional se han transformado en otra de las herramientas que colaboran activamente en la consecución de los objetivos de comunicación y marketing de las organizaciones.

La participación en eventos organizados por terceros como ferias y exposiciones representa una oportunidad única para tomar contacto directo con los consumidores, para promover acciones vinculantes con públicos potenciales y para articular el posicionamiento de imagen institucional, de marca y de producto.

Los eventos propios, por su parte, forman parte del menú de acciones que una empresa puede aplicar para conseguir resultados específicos y puntuales: workshops para clientes, visitas guiadas, conferencias, muestras, actividades abiertas y capacitaciones.

Acciones estratégicas

Quizá por la naturaleza integradora de la imagen institucional, en los últimos años comenzó a tomar vuelo el enfoque estratégico de las Relaciones Públicas y sus alcances de largo plazo.

Más allá de las acciones específicas que se escojan, el objetivo subyacente de todo programa de Relaciones Públicas consiste en articular, en la mente del público, una imagen institucional de acuerdo a parámetros conceptuales determinados a priori.

Dentro de este nuevo rol de gestión profesional, actualmente se registran tendencias como los planes anuales y proactivos de Relaciones Públicas, participación de programas activos de Responsabilidad Social Empresarial desarrollados por terceros, diseño y ejecución de acciones de alcance comunitario y social, reconocimiento del valor de la comunicación para los públicos internos, "e-communications", Comunicaciones Integradas y Dirección por Valores.

Un programa ambicioso de Relaciones Públicas plantea, entre sus propósitos, hacer públicos los pilares corporativos e institucionales con los que vertebrar las relaciones con los principales grupos de interés: clientes, accionistas, empleados y la comunidad.

En este contexto, la capacidad de generar confianza es el indicador que mejor refleja el éxito en la gestión de un profesional de relaciones públicas.

La confianza ayuda a reducir las interferencias, a potenciar las comunicaciones (al disminuir las barreras que impiden la transmisión y recepción de los mensajes) y a mejorar los procesos de toma de decisiones.

El público escucha a las organizaciones en las que confía y acepta su influencia. La desconfianza, por el contrario, genera confusión, tensión y frustración en el auditorio.

Instalar niveles razonables de confianza mutua con el público es un trabajo arduo que requiere paciencia, dedicación y disciplina. Pero, en última instancia, este es el aporte de valor que pueden hacer los profesionales de relaciones públicas a las organizaciones.

A short note just arrived from Enrique Joven, concerning a recent talk he attended at the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) by Dr. Paolo Molaro from the Osservatorio Astronomico di Trieste: “On the invention of the telescope and the paintings of Jan Brueghel”

Jan Brueghel depicted telescopes in four paintings spanning the period between 1609 and 1621. We have investigated the nature and the origin of these telescopes. An optical “tube” that appears in the painting dated 1608-1612, and probably reproduced also in a painting of the 1621, represents one the earliest documentation of a Dutch spyglass which could even tentatively attributed to Sacharias Janssen or Lipperhey, thus prior to those made by Galileo. Other two instruments made of several draw-tubes which appear in the two paintings of 1617 and 1618 are quite sophisticated for the period and we argue that may represent early examples of Keplerian telescopes.

Molaro is (of course) referring to Jan Brueghel the Elder (1568-1625): before this, I had only heard of the telescope in the series of paintingsÂ Brueghel executed with Rubens (which is now in the Prado), so I look forward to reading more aboutÂ the other depictions of telescopes, particularly the earliest of the set. Today, a story of two ships
One sank. One didn't. The University of Houston's College of Engineering presents this series about the machines that make our civilization run, and the people whose ingenuity created them.

Both the Titanic and the Great Eastern were once the largest ships ever made. They're two of the best known as well. The Great Eastern, launched in 1858, was almost seven hundred feet long. The Titanic, launched fifty-three years later, was nearly nine hundred feet long. And each suffered the same kind of accident soon after it was put to sea.

THE GREAT EASTERN

Isambard Kingdom Brunel, who designed the Great Eastern, was the greatest artist ever to work in iron.

He was remarkably thorough, and the Great Eastern reflected that care. It was to be a passenger liner, and no cost was spared in making it safe. It had a double hull.

It was honey combed with bulkheads that created almost fifty water-tight compartments. The Great Eastern was overdesigned and inefficient, but it still provided transatlantic service for two years.

Then, in 1862, an uncharted rock in Long Island Sound tore an 83-foot-long, 9-foot-wide, gash in its outer hull.

But the inner hull held. And it steamed safely on into New York Harbor.

THE TITANIC

The Titanic was another matter

Transatlantic service was now lucrative business. Bit by bit, safety standards yielded to commercial pressures. The Titanic's hull boasted a double bottom, but it had only a single wall on the sides. It had fifteen sections that could be sealed off at the throw of a switch, but the bulkheads between those sections were riddled with access doors to improve luxury service.

It didn't have enough lifeboats
Why did everyone think it was so safe? Well, its luxurious beauty was seductive. Historian Walter Lord said of the Titanic, "The appearance of safety was mistaken for safety itself".

When the Titanic grazed a North Atlantic iceberg in 1912, it suffered nothing like the continuous gash in the side of the Great Eastern.

Instead, rivets popped and its plates parted from the hull over a 250-foot length. Without a double sidewall, that let in enough water to sink it within a scant two hours and forty minutes.

The Great Eastern's engines never did function efficiently enough to carry passengers profitably. But it was the only ship large enough to finally lay the Atlantic Cable.

Still, it had little other purpose. One investor tried to make it into a floating amusement park. When it was dismantled for scrap, the job took two years. And a long-dead body turned up inside that double hull.

So the shadow of Brunel's Great Eastern hovers over the Titanic. By 1912, a half-century of safe steamships had put everyone off their guard. We can draw a parallel in the loss of the space shuttle Challenger. NASA's safety record had been unreasonably good up to then. We forgot how dangerous rocket launches really are.

The Titanic and Challenger remind us that we engineers had better mix a dollop of fear in with our excitement -- especially when everything's going well.

El 8 de octubre de 1565, el cosmógrafo Fray Andrés de Urdaneta llega a las costas de Acapulco tras haber recorrido "setenta mil y setenta y tres millas" en poco más de cuatro meses. Corregidor y Visitador en la región de Avalos, comarca al noroeste de Michoacán, Urdaneta descubre la ruta del "Tornaviaje" que posibilitará el comercio de mercaderías entre Asia y Nueva España a través del mar y que será conocido en los 250 años siguientes como la ruta de la "Nao de la China"o del "Galeón de Manila".

La expedición de Magallanes y Elcano logró cumplir el sueño colombino de llegar a Asia navegando hacia poniente y con ello concluyó la primera vuelta al mundo en un viaje de tres años, que le valió al marino guipuzcoano el escudo con la leyenda, "Primus circumdedisti me" ("El primero que me diste la vuelta") otorgado por el emperador Carlos V. Juan Sebastián Elcano salió de La Coruña en 1525, en busca de las Islas de la Especiería, con una armada de 450 hombres al mando de Frey Juan García Jofre de Loaisa y llevando consigo a un joven grumete de 18 años llamado Andrés de Urdaneta.
Militar, navegante, cosmógrafo y religioso, Urdaneta permaneció nueve años en las Islas Molucas. Regresó a España por Lisboa después de dar la vuelta al mundo en un viaje de once años menos veintiocho días. En 1559, fue enviado como cosmógrafo por Felipe II en la expedición de Miguel López de Legazpi al Pacífico. Siguiendo un Nuevo Rumbo que le dirigiera al norte en busca de los contraalisios y la corriente de Kuro Shivo, Urdaneta descubrió la ruta del "Tornaviaje" que le permitió alcanzar California y recorrer la costa de Nueva España, bajando desde Puerto Navidad y llegando hasta Acapulco.

Los buenos libros te enseñan a ser libre, ya que tendrás los conocimientos necesarios para tomar las decisiones importantes que toda persona tiene que estar tomando a lo largo de su existencia. Si no aprendes a tomar tus propias decisiones, los demás querrán estar decidiendo por ti.

El ignorante es ignorante porque decide ser ignorante. Le dice al embustero: ''dirígeme, porque no me gusta tomar mis propias decisiones. Me haré cómplice de tus embustes, si aceptas tomar decisiones por mí. Dependeré de ti y tú te harás cargo de mí. Acepto ser tu esclavo a cambio de que me libres de mis responsabilidades''.

El ignorante, el esclavo, la víctima, existen porque en un momento fueron engañados por el abusador, el explotador. Pero hubo también otro momento en que se dieron cuenta del engaño, y no hicieron nada por cambiar su situación. En realidad es la aceptación del negligente lo que permite que el abuso siga proliferando en las sociedades mal encausadas.

Enseñemos a nuestros niños y jóvenes a vivir en los valores de la educación y la unidad familiar. De nada vale quejarse de los males sociales si no fortalecemos lo que mantiene la cohesión de toda sociedad:

¿Qué es un blog?

Un blog es un diario personal. Una tribuna de orador. Un espacio de colaboración. Un estrado político. Una fuente de noticias impactantes. Una colección de enlaces. Un medio para expresar sus opiniones personales. Comunicados para todo el mundo.

Su blog será como usted quiera que sea. Existen millones de ellos con diferentes formas y tamaños. No debe seguirse ningún patrón.

Un blog puede definirse de forma sencilla como un sitio web donde el usuario escribe periódicamente sobre cualquier tema. Los últimos escritos se muestran en la parte superior para que las personas que visitan el sitio sepan cuál es la información más reciente. Una vez leída esta información, pueden comentarla, enlazar con ella o escribir un mensaje al autor, aunque también pueden optar por no hacer nada de esto.

Desde el lanzamiento de Blogger en 1999, los blogs han cambiado la naturaleza de la web, han influido en la política, han revolucionado el periodismo y han permitido a millones de personas tener voz propia y relacionarse con otros.

Y estamos prácticamente convencidos de que esto es sólo el comienzo.

Comercio a través de los galeones

El comercio entre Manila y Acapulco duró 250 años ( 1565 – 1815 ) y fue considerado como uno de los aspectos más significativos de las Filipinas durante la época colonial española. Los galeones de Manila, gigantescos barcos construidos en Luzon, llevaban productos y convertían Manila en un puerto de transbordo de la seda y porcelana china, algodón de la India, alfombras persas, tabaco filipino, azúcar y especias orientales, a otros productos vendidos en Europa a través de México.

El comercio de la nao de Acapulco, sin embargo, no condujo al progreso de todo el archipiélago, ya que sólo los españoles, mestizos y chinos en la capital se beneficiaban de ello. Incluso las ganancias de los productos domésticos vendidos iban a estos grupos que generalmente los compraban a los indígenas a precios muy bajos para venderlos a precios elevados.

La aportación más importante a la vida de las islas de este comercio se centraba en los intercambios culturales entre Filipinas y México. La flora y la fauna mexicana fueron importadas ( entraron frutas como el aguacate, la guayaba, la papaya y la piña ). Algunos animales ( el caballo y el gallo ) también fueron introducidos. Y el idioma filipino fue enriquecido por palabras de origen mexicano.

The Divine Proportion
Any objective observation we make must include a discussion of proportion for it is the rule of proportion in the examination of nature that causes us to observe an organized universe and a universe in chaos, rational and irrational numbers, harmony and discord, truth and falsity. These descriptions are merely proportional effects of the opposition that is inherent in all things.

We see harmony expressed by those emotions, feelings, and characteristics present within ourselves. This harmony is viewed within nature as the Divine Proportion.

The Divine Proportion ascribed to our collective state of observation has been expressed, "For of three magnitudes, if the greatest (AB) is to the mean (CB) as the mean (CB) is to the least (AC), they therefore all shall be one."

The Divine Proportion was closely studied by the Greek sculptor, Phidias, and as a result, it took on the name of Phi. Also referred to as the Golden Mean, the Magic Ratio, the Fibonacci Series, etc., Phi can be found throughout the universe; from the spirals of galaxies to the spiral of a Nautilus seashell; from the harmony of music to the beauty in art.

A botanist will find it in the growth patterns of flowers and plants, while the zoologist sees it in the breeding of rabbits. The entomologist views it in the genealogy of a bee, and the physicist observes it in the behavior of light and atoms. A Wall Street analyst can find it in the rising and falling patterns of a market, while the mathematician uncovers it in the examination of the pentagram.

Throughout history, Phi has been observed to evoke emotion or aesthetic feelings within us. The ancient Egyptians used it in the construction of the great pyramids and in the design of hieroglyphs found on tomb walls. At another time, thousands of miles away, the ancients of Mexico embraced Phi while building the Sun Pyramid at Teotihuacan. The Greeks studied Phi closely through their mathematics and used it in their architecture.

The Parthenon
The Parthenon at Athens is a classic example of the use of the Golden Rectangle. Plato in his Timaeus considered it the most binding of all mathematical relations and makes it the key to the physics of the cosmos.

During the Renaissance, Phi served as the "hermetic" structure on which great masterpieces were composed. Renowned artists such as Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo da Vinci made use of it for they knew of its appealing qualities. Evidence suggests that classical music composed by Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach embraces Phi. Whether it was by design or intuitive is not known.

Phi must be considered in its relation to the human psyche since it is the psyche that interprets this phenomena. Although Phi appears to be fixed in nature, it actually is not. The only reason it seems fixed is because it is fixed within our own minds. This proportion corresponds to the mental vibrations that are within us and dictate our sense of pleasure and pain, beauty and ugliness, love and hate, etc.

The result is we are held captive by these memories fixed by both body and mind. For if we were to view nature from an altered state of consciousness, the proportion would also be altered.
Therefore, the Divine Proportion presents itself in the very physical nature of Creation. It is seen as the beauty and organization within the cosmos. It is the harmony and glue that holds the unity of the universe.

Phi, el Número Áureo,

la Divina Proporción

Phi (Φ) es una letra del alfabeto griego,
usada para representar el Número Dorado, la Proporción Divina.

Se trata de un número que posee muchas propiedades interesantes y que fue descubierto en la antigüedad, no como “unidad” sino como relación o proporción.

Esta proporción se encuentra tanto en algunas figuras geométricas como en las partes de un cuerpo, y en la naturaleza como relación entre cuerpos, en la morfología de diversos elementos tales como caracolas, nervaduras de las hojas de algunos árboles, el grosor de las ramas, proporciones humanas, etc.

Platón (c. 428-347 a. C.)

consideró la sección áurea como la mejor de todas las relaciones matemáticas y la llave a la física del cosmos.

Esta proporción se da de manera que al dividir un segmento en dos partes, la razón entre la totalidad del segmento y la parte mayor sea igual a la razón entre ésta (la parte mayor) y la parte menor.

Este número, esta proporción, rige el universo entero prácticamente, los griegos creían que era la medida de la proporción divina, de la belleza perfecta, y se encuentra en el universo entero, desde caracolas, la cara de los tigres, las aletas de los peces... hasta el crecimiento demográfico, la pintura, la música, la arquitectura, las proporciones de nuestro cuerpo, de nuestro ADN, de los girasoles...

Lo extremedamente curioso y verdaderamente sorprendente reside en que no se encuentra sólo en cosas artificiales y "humanas" (que también), sino en la propia naturaleza y en cosas incontrolables. La espiral áurea contenida en un rectángulo áureo.

Algunas curiosidades:

•Si divides tu altura total entre la distancia del suelo a tu ombligo da Phi (en realidad da algo cercano, si diera Phi nuestras proporciones de altura serían perfectas).
•Igual pasa si divides la distancia total de tu brazo entre la distancia de la punta de los dedos al codo.
•Las espirales de las caracolas crecen en proporción Phi una de la anterior, al igual que ocurre en los girasoles y los pétalos de las rosas (los pétalos de las rosas siguen la serie de Fibonacci [ver más adelante]).
•Los templos griegos guardan esta proporción en su construcción, al igual que las pirámides de Egipto.
•En las estructuras formales de las sonatas de Mozart, en la Quinta Sinfonía de Beethoven, en obras de Schubert y Debussy (estos compositores probablemente compusieron estas relaciones de manera inconsciente, basándose en equilibrios de masas sonoras).
•El número áureo aparece en las relaciones entre altura y ancho de los objetos y personas que aparecen en las obras de Miguel Ángel, Durero y Da Vinci, entre otros.
Phi presente en arquitectura egipcia y griega, en el arte renacentista y en la catedral de Notre Dame (París), como director de la orquesta de la belleza y el equilibrio.
•En la serie de Fibonacci, en la que cada número es la suma de los dos anteriores: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34... si divides un número entre el anterior, el resultado que da es cada vez más cercano a Phi.
•Igualmente podemos concluir la fórmula (donde ^ significa "elevado a"):

Phi^2 = Phi + 1
Phi^2 = Phi^1 + Phi^0
Phi^n+2 = Phi^n+1 + Phi^0

•En general, artísticamente, el clímax de una obra musical suele venir en el punto Phi, así como en una fotografía siempre resulta más bello y armonioso que la atención se focalice en los puntos Phi antes que en el centro o en cualquier otro punto. Generalmente, esto se hace de manera inconsciente, se podría decir que "porque nos parece más bello" o "más adecuado".
•La espiral de la molécula del ADN está basada en la sección áurea (Phi). Mide 34 angstroms de largo por 21 angstroms de ancho para cada ciclo de la espiral de su doble hélice. Por supuesto, 34 y 21 son números de la serie de Fibonacci, y su ratio, 1.6190476, se acerca mucho a Phi, 1.6180339. Igualmente su sección, un decágono (o dos pentágonos) se basa en esta razón.

Aunque podamos contestar a estas preguntas de manera científica, todavía no hemos podido dar las respuestas de manera fundamental.

* ¿Por qué no podemos sobrevivir aun solo por un día si nos cortan del agua?

* ¿Por qué el hielo flota en el agua? (las otras sustancias se hundirán siempre al fondo)

* ¿Por qué hay cosas tales como ‘‘la tensión de superficie’’ (teoría) y ‘‘fenómeno de capilaridad’’?

* ¿Por qué el agua pesa más cuando la temperatura es de 4 grados centígrados?

* ¿Por qué puede el agua cambiar su estado alternativamente de su forma sólida, líquida y gaseosa?

* ¿Cómo puede el agua disolver cualquier cosa?

Hablando de los humanos,

todos nosotros estamos compuestos
casi totalmente de agua

* Cuando somos aún unos pequeños huevos fertilizados, somos 96 por cientos de agua.

* El contenido de agua de los recien nacidos es 80 por cientos.

* Y el promedio de agua en las células de los adultos es del 70 por ciento.

En fin, se puede decir que físicamente todos nosotros somos casi agua.

A pesar de este hecho, todavía no sabemos casi nada sobre el agua; por eso es posible decir que no entendemos quienes somos nosotros realmente.

Aunque no negamos el hecho de que “el agua es la fuente para todas las cosas” (lo que fue enseñado por el filósofo griego, Thales, hace como 4000 años) y entendamos la importancia del agua, realmente no entendemos la esencia de ello. (Búsqueda, Masaru Emoto)

Los mensajes del agua

Masaru Emoto entabló contacto con un investigador californiano que estudiaba las vibraciones más sutiles de las moléculas de agua utilizando las técnica de la resonancia magnética.

Trabajando con este científico el profesor Emoto se formuló la siguiente pregunta: ¿sería posible reflejar las cualidades sanadoras de diferentes tipos de agua de una manera visible y palpable?

La 'idea feliz' para llevar a cabo este estudio le llegó al fotografiar los cristales hexagonales que formaban distintas muestras de agua al helarse.

Y de las imágenes que obtuvo llegó la confirmación a su sorprendente hipótesis: Ciertas muestras de agua corriente de grandes urbes presentaban una estructura de cristalización muy tosca, mientras que muestras de agua de manantiales ofrecían cristales de una gran belleza.

Extendió así su área de estudio al fotografiar cristalizaciones de agua de diversos lugares del mundo obteniendo cristales de formas más bellas y sorprendentes cuanto más alejados se hallaban del quehacer humano.

La sorpresa mayor llegó al conseguir transformar irregulares patrones de agua contaminada en bellos cristales hexagonales al someter las muestras a la audición de canciones tradicionales, oraciones religiosas o bien música clásica.

O bien al transformar 'indiferentes' cristales de agua destilada en bellos patrones geométricos al susurrarles palabras de agradecimiento, o bien al contrario, obtener horrorosas estructuras al someterlas a frases desagradables. (Publicado por Aprender es divertido)

Third Party JavaScript and Links
For optimal blog load speed, we recommend using Google/Blogger widgets, JavaScipt and links. However, if you need to use third party JavaScipt and links, your blog will load much faster if you put all JavaScript at the bottom of your blog. If you have third party JavaScript and links in your sidebar, put them in at the bottom of the sidebar.

Images and Media
The more images, videos and other multi-media you have on your blog the longer it will take to load. However, images and other multimedia are important to attracting users to your blog, so it is important to optimize the load speed of your images and media. Here are a few tips to increase the load speed of your media:
Decrease the size of your images or use thumbnails that link to the full-size image.

La Nao de Victoria

La Nao Victoria culmina el jueves su gesta con la llegada al puerto de Sevilla
SEVILLA. La Nao Victoria culmina pasado mañana en el puerto de Sevilla la aventura de haber dado la vuelta al mundo, tal como lo hizo Juan Sebastián Elcano en el siglo XVI.

Desde el pasado día 22, la nave se encuentra en Sanlúcar de Barrameda, que fue la segunda escala que efectuó la expedición en octubre de 2004.

La réplica de la Nao Victoria fue realizada para la Exposición Universal de Sevilla de 1992, y ha estado atracada en el río Guadalquivir hasta que años después surgió la idea de recuperarla con objeto de repetir la hazaña. Y así se ha hecho, según un proyecto de Ignacio Fernández Vial, José Luis de Ugarte y Joaquín Garrido.

La reparación de la nave y la gesta han sido posible gracias al convenio que en el año 2004 firmaron la SEEI, Agesa (como propietaria de la carabela) y El Cano.

Para su reconstrucción se han empleado los mismos materiales que se utilizaron hace 500 años, dotando a la nave de instrumentos propios de la época: astrolabio, cuadrante, ballestilla, sondaleza, con los últimos avances de electrónica naval.

El proyecto ha servido no sólo para conmemorar la primera vuelta al mundo, sino también aprovechar esta experiencia única y profundizar en el conocimiento de los distintos aspectos en que se desarrolló la primera gesta, iniciada el 10 de agosto de 1519.

El acuario más grande del mundo

He visto muchos acuarios grandes (hace tiempo tenía un familiar que tenía uno de 150 litros) pero esto es algo sin precedentes.

Resulta que el acuario más grande del mundo se encuentra en el vestíbulo del Hotel Radisson, en Berlín.

El acuario en cuestión tiene ni más ni menos que 25 metros de altura y una capacidad de un millón cd litros de agua salada.

En el acuario habitan casi dos mil peces tropicales, aparte de algún buzo ocasional que se encarga de la limpieza interna del acuario.

El material con el que se ha construido esta maravilla es vidrio sintético y se han empleado dos años enteros en su construcción con un peso final de 150 toneladas, una superficie ocupada de 90 metros cuadrados y un volumen de 1.400 metros cúbicos.

Pero, si creeis que ésto es todo, esperad que falta lo mejor. Resulta que el acuario dispone de un ascensor interno que permite a los clientes del hotel subir por el interior del acuario y poder ver así el interior de ésta maravilla.
